Joint ANTT-CNTA survey will improve stopping and resting points for truck drivers

The National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT) and the National Confederation of Autonomous Transporters (CNTA) have joined forces in a comprehensive survey to improve stop and rest points (PPDs) along federal highways. The results of this initiative will help the Agency to shape safer, more comfortable and more efficient locations for truck drivers throughout Brazil, as well as helping to regulate the issue.

The survey, conducted by CNTA in cooperation with ANTT, sought to capture the needs and expectations of truck drivers in relation to PPDs. Divided into two stages, the survey covered essential topics such as personal hygiene, cleanliness, food, rest, safety, communication, health and other relevant services, also including specific needs of women who work in cargo transportation, such as exclusive parking spaces and parking spaces closer to the building, as well as greater distance between men’s and women’s restrooms.

The first phase, carried out as a pilot in the state of Paraná, took place from November 7 to 10, 2023. Subsequently, the second stage was applied nationwide, from November 20, 2023 to January 5, 2024, reaching 1,403 professionals interviewed, 93.6% of whom were male and 6.4% female.

MORE THAN 75% OF THE TOPICS ARE ALREADY OFFERED

The results of the survey brought up important points that will be improved and implemented in all the PPDs on the highways under concession, but more than 75% of what was covered in the survey is already offered at the recently installed points, such as on BR-153 at kilometers 210 (Uruaçu-GO) and 801 Talismã (TO). Each of the PPDs covers an area of 20,000 square meters and has facilities such as exclusive parking. The sites serve the professional category 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Items such as toilets with hot showers, tanks for washing clothes, canteens, communal televisions, security guards, fenced parking lots and WiFi were considered extremely important by the truck drivers interviewed.

Fernando Feitosa, ANTT’s Road Regulation Manager, stressed the importance of functional PPD models, guaranteeing road safety, quality of life for truck drivers and excellence in the services provided.

The PPDs have a legal provision (Law 13.103/2015) and will be regulated by the ANTT, with the aim of ensuring safety on the highways granted. The Agency has put this issue on the regulatory agenda for 2023/2024 and has listened to the direct opinion of drivers in order to shape these stopping points in the best possible way.
