On Monday (25/9), the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) held Participatory Meeting No. 2/2023, with the aim of addressing the issue of “Stop and Rest Points – PPDs” on the federal highways granted. The event was organized into three sessions, with the aim of fostering discussion around the draft text of the resolution that will outline the ideal model to be adopted by the concessionaires for its implementation.
The process involved the participation of various entities representing the freight transport sector, including public, private and cooperative companies. Each had the opportunity to contribute in a detailed and comprehensive way throughout the discussions.
One of the topics highlighted during the sessions was the issue of making the number of parking spaces more flexible, taking into account the profile of vehicles and the volume of traffic in different regions. In addition, the importance of installing communication signs at a distance of 2 km from the PPD was discussed, which would indicate not only the location, but also the distance and availability of parking spaces, with the aim of providing essential information to truck drivers.
At the start of the participatory meeting, ANTT presented the four criteria that guided the work methodology and the analysis of the project. These criteria were selected to guide the collaborative construction, together with society, of a PPD model that is aligned with users’ needs.
According to ANTT’s Road Regulation Manager, Fernando Feitosa, the PPD models and usability profile should have as little impact as possible on users’ lives. “We’re talking about a structure that needs to be functional: it needs to guarantee road safety, quality of life for truck drivers, good logistics and quality in the services provided.”
The Stop and Rest Points are provided for in Law (13.103/2015) and regulated by ANTT through Decree 8.433/2015 and Deliberation No. 358 of November 25, 2022, with the aim of ensuring road safety on the highways granted.
Contributions are open to the whole of society and anyone interested in expressing their opinion should access the ParticipANTT system and send their participation in writing by 5pm on 11 October.
